From Coach Stravino
All First Colonial wrestlers will be able to compete, either as an alternate in the tournament or on the “challenge” mat.
Arrive at FC at 7 am. Walk, on foot, to Cape Henry, at 7:30. Weigh-in at 8. Wrestling begins at 10 am. After tournament, we (all) need to bring mats back to FC.
Cape Henry Invitational/Schedule of events:
December 7 (8am) weigh-ins and medical checks (once all weights are called to scale weigh-ins are over)
(10am) wrestling starts (6 mats)
1) Round of 16
2) Round of 8 and consolations
4) Consolations challenge mat open until other matches end
5) Round of 4 (semis)
7) Round of 2 (finals)
Note: Plan is to never have a dry/open mat from 10am start to finish. We may need to run finals before consolations in certain or all weights if rest time is needed for bouts.
Championship Bracket ( see page 54 of rule book) losers of semis will wrestle for 3rd.
Consolations Bracket (see page 54 of rule book) best you can get is 5th if you lose before semi-finals, conso semi-final losers will wrestle for 7th. Our plan is to fill a complete 16 man bracket (no more).
Teams who have said they are participating:
1) Bishop Sullivan Catholic (BSC)
2) Cape Henry Collegiate (CHC)
3) First Colonial (FC)
4) Fork Union Military Academy (FUMA)
5) Indian River (IR)
6) Peninsula Catholic (PC)
7) Norfolk Academy (NA)
8) Norfolk Christian (NCH)
9) Norfolk Collegiate (NC)
10) Roanoke Catholic (RC)
11) Woodside (W)
12) Western Branch (WB)
We will fill in complete 16 man bracket with a fair process to all (fill in your back-ups equally amongst teams). You are only guaranteed one (1) participant per weight class. I understand there will be changes (adds and drops), just please keep me updated ASAP. We will use 6 mats from start to finish. Wrestlers eliminated before the 5 match limit and “extras” not able to fit in bracket may be put on challenge mat list. We will use mat #6 for challenge matches ASAP and continue until bracket is over (16 man official bracket).
Wrestlers may only challenge in weight class qualified, so please weigh-in all extras with your starting line-up. Winners’ bracket periods will be 2-2-2. Consolation and challenge periods will be 1-2-2. All matches will use official overtime rules. To stay within the 5 match limit, after losing before the semis the best you can get is 5th. Losers of semis will wrestle for 3rd. Losers of consolation semis will wrestle for 7th. Medals will be awarded to top 5 in each weight class. No team score or other awards. All teams will be responsible for 1 mat helper (working all day as timer, scorer, tapper, etc). Coaches and workers will be allowed to use the hospitality room.
Entry fee is $375 per team due before tournament. Concessions will be available. Please keep outside food to a minimum. There will be a gate charge of $5 for adults and $3 for children all day for non-competitors and coaches.
